Olive Thomas. Graphic Design + Photography

"Graphic Design?" "Photography?" "Shouldn't you have two separate sites?"

Why?

I'm a multi-purpose type of person who enjoys and thrives in doing several things at once. Why not showcase this skill in an all in one website rather than sending you confused all over the place? Here you can see my digital designs: flyers, advertisements, and other marketing visuals - as well as peak into my passion for photography and photomanipulation and photorecovery.

One is to show you how I see the world.

The other is someone else's view.

And somewhere in between, the worlds connect

and there's no difference between the two.

About the Process - An Inside Look

Unless you are or have been a graphic designer of types, you're unsure of all that goes into even a simple design. This little excerpt is to help you peer into my world.

In fantasyland, it only takes an hour after you feed your information into my brain, then I poop out a perfect design charging you pennies because it’s just so gosh darn easy.

In reality, it takes time for me to get to know your objective, your image, and your target market. I sit down and sketch up 40ish thumbnail ideas. Then take 10 of the best designs and work off of them. Then take 3-5 of the best of THOSE and move over to the computer.

“But wait, aren’t you a graphic designer?” Why work in the ancient medium of pen and paper in the beginning? Because it’s easier and faster. This is the brainstorming session – when I jot down anything and everything that comes to mind so I can discover a variety of interesting new images.

Once I’m logged back in to the digital world with my thumbnail sketches close by, I mimic a digital design of them or even scan them in. Then research the fonts and graphic effects to go with the message of the design. 10-20 thumbnails later, I decide which 3-5 are best to send to you, my beautiful client.
You tell me what you do and don’t like about them and I move on from there. This might happen twice more before you decide on the one that suites you best. By the end of the process (typically 2 weeks), I guarantee you will have a new design you love!
